The History of World Doll Day
The idea of World Doll Day began with Mildred Seeley’s spontaneous thought:
World Doll Day? I just thought of it an hour ago!
On June 14, 1986, World Doll Day was born from this simple yet profound concept of spreading joy by giving a doll to someone special. Mildred Seeley, a renowned figure in the doll community, wanted to create a tradition that celebrated dolls and the happiness they bring.

The quote emphasizes the joy and community spirit of doll collecting: "Happiness is the hobby of collecting and helping other doll collectors and makers. Happiness is World Doll Day." In her autobiography, For the Love of Dolls and Roses, Florence Theriault described Mildred Seeley’s unique influence in the world of doll collecting:
“Mildred Seeley holds a special place in the world of doll collecting. Her antique doll collection is among the finest globally. Like all great art collectors, she knew how to select and refine her collection, always striving for perfection. A talented doll artist, innovative organizer, founder of the Doll Artisan Guild, accomplished author, and passionate mentor—Mildred Seeley significantly contributed to the revival of doll collecting in the late 20th century”.
Mildred’s passion for dolls and her love for sharing knowledge with others led her to establish World Doll Day. She believed that “happiness is the hobby of collecting and helping other doll collectors and makers. Happiness is World Doll Day.” Her vision was to create a day devoted to spreading love and happiness through the simple act of giving a doll.
